If pop-ups were used in real life situations: #1 Family fights

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you could use a pop-up in a real life situation?

Well, me and my colleagues took this question seriously. So we got together for what turned our to be one of the funniest brainstorming sessions I’ve been in lately.

We asked ourselves what would happen if we, as marketers, started to use our pop-ups, ribbons and surveys in real life interactions?

How would life be if we had a pop-up or a ribbon for when we don’t know what to say in a usual fight?

What would happen if we used a “15% discount coupon” or a “countdown timer” pop-up and personalize them for everyday, usual conflicts that occur in almost every family on planet Earth.

Like when your spouse gets mad because you forgot to celebrate your 1 year anniversary, when your mother in law comes to visit and forgets to leave, or when your kid refuses to go to school one morning…

We came up with 6 real life situations and we created a pop-up for each of them.

I hope you’ll have at least as much fun reading them as we had creating them.

#1 “I’m leaving you”

Situation: you’ve just had a major fight with your girlfriend and she’s so mad that she’s threatening to leave you.

Pop-up type: “Before you leave” with 2 buttons.

Trigger: on (girlfriend’s) exit

#2 Mother in law comes to visit

Situation: you know your mother in law has the nasty habit to come visit and forgets to leave in a reasonable time

Pop-up type: “Countdown timer”

Trigger: mother in law walks through the door

#3 Your kid doesn’t want to…

Situation: it’s a school day and your 8 year-old says he doesn’t want to go to school today.

Pop-up type: Free shipping voucher

Trigger: you run out of arguments

#4 Mom complains you don’t call her often enough

Situation: every time you call her, your mom complains you didn’t call her in such a long time.

Pop-up type: Subscribe to newsletter

Trigger: mom complains for the millionth time

#5 Night fight

Situation: your girlfriend wants to continue talking even if it’s late at night and you just wanna go to sleep.

Pop-up type: “Working hours”

Trigger: too tired to talk

#6 “I’m going to my parents ”

Situation: you’ve just had a fight and your girlfriend says she’s going to stay with her parents for a couple of days.

Pop-up type: Weather/City personalization

In real marketing situations, you can use the variables like {city}, {weather}, {temperature} to personalize the interactions for each visitor.

Trigger: girlfriend leaving to her parents

So these are the 6 situations we thought about to solve with personalized pop-ups.

Joke aside, you can actually create pop-ups like these in a couple of minutes, without any line of code needed with the Template Editor by Omniconvert.

If you have a funny idea of how a pop-up would look like in a real life situation, at home, at work, on the street, during holidays, while shopping or anywhere else, share it in the comments bellow.

We’d love to have more fun seeing pop-ups in real life.
