How to create an objection treatment Survey on the cart page
If you find yourself in the following situations:
- You have visitors, but not too many buyers?
- They look at your products, add them to cart, but fail to complete the order?
Or simply you want to lower your cart abandonment rate and increase conversions?

Let’s take an example:
Ooh! It seems that you did not finish your order this time! Please tell us what stopped you?
- The price is too high -> By selecting this answer it will trigger a Pop-Up with 5% discount if the user completes the order now;
- The shipping cost is too high -> This one will trigger a Pop-Up with a free shipping offer if the user completes the order now;
- I have encountered a technical problem -> This one should trigger a lead collector in order for an operator to contact the user and find out what was the problem;
- I prefer to buy it from your store -> Selecting this answer will trigger a Pop-Up with a 10% discount for next online order;
- Other – the visitor will write his own answer which will trigger a lead collector in order for the user to fill in its contact details and an operator to contact him if necessary.
1. Creating the Overlay experiments that will hold the creatives/pop-up’s needed for each answer.
2. Creating the survey in which we will integrate the previously created pop-up’s that will trigger for each selected answer.
I. How to create Pop-Up discounts
Go to ‘Dashboard‘ –> ‘Overlay’.
Create ‘New Overlay‘and choose the template you wish to edit or add your own artwork.
After that, a new window will appear from which you will have to choose the type of trigger based on your objective which in this case it should be On Load.
After selecting the trigger, you’ll land on the builder from where you can modify the template to suit your needs.
After setting up the design, go to the ‘Audience’ tab to continue with the experiment setup.
There, you must let the URL field empty because the creative/pop-up attached to the variation of the experiment will be triggered by the survey. There is no need for the experiment to be set to appear on your website.
Then, let the ‘Segment‘ (Target) to include all visitors in the experiment. If you want to target a specific segment, you need to define it in the Survey, not here.
Set up device type to be ‘All devices‘ and frequency to be ‘Every time‘.
In the ‘Traffic Allocation and Goals‘ tab, you must set the traffic to be 100% on the variation.
Finally, you can Schedule, Rename, and Publish the experiment.
Once the Overlay experiment is done, continue with the remaining ones until you have them all ready.
II. How to create the Survey
Go to ‘Dashboard‘ – > ‘Surveys‘.
From the appearing window choose ‘Pop-up survey‘ and enter a name for it.
Create your ‘Main question‘ and choose the ‘Unique choice‘ answer type:
Add the answers needed for the main question:
Choose the action logic for each specific answer when selected by the visitor.
In this case, for the ‘Price is too high’ answer, the discount creative/pop-up will be triggered. The creative/pop-up selected, belongs to the Overlay experiment created previously:
In order for the lead collector to appear, if the answer is ‘Other’, you must choose ‘Go to end screen‘ in ‘Advanced settings‘:
Next, you must enable the ‘Lead collector‘ to gather user details, to be contacted later by one of your agents.
Choose what data you want to collect from your visitors:

Design your Survey to look just the way you want.
Below, you have a live preview window where you can see the changes you’re making – as you go. Click to refresh the preview window after you made changes.
Once the design is ready, go to ‘Texts‘ tab. There, you can select from the predefined languages or insert your own version in any language you choose. In this tab, you can also add a header to your survey, in a text format, picture, HTML etc.
You must delete the Intro message page in order for the survey to start with the question directly.
There is a place for a ‘Thank you message‘too if you you want to edit it.
Next step is to choose your Audience.
In the ‘Audience‘ tab, go to ‘Manage the pages where you want to run this survey‘. In our example, the rule ‘URL is‘ will make our system trigger the Survey only on the cart page.
After you’ve done managing the pages select the ‘Segment’ of visitors who will see the survey by clicking on the drop-down button.
In the second part of the page, you can select the percentage of visitors who will see the survey and how often to display it to your visitors. In this part, you can also add a maximum number of responses (once that number is reached, the survey will stop) and select the devices where you want the survey to be visible.
In the end, you have the option to mark it as exclusive, meaning that no other experiments/surveys will be triggered for the visitors who already viewed this one, for the time it is running.
In the end, you can Schedule your survey.
Choose for how long to set it live, when to be triggered to your visitors and whether or not you want to receive an email when it has expired.
Finally, click on ‘Publish‘. You can also save the experiment as a draft to work later on it.
