Highlighting an important sales offer in your site navigation has the benefit that it’s visible on every page and gets a ton of attention. Besides SALE, some other categories you can test highlighting in your navigation are best-sellers, top-rated, or seasonal.

    Step 1. Create a new A/B test

From the top-left menu select the ‘A/B Testing’ option.

Then select the button ‘Create an A/B test’:

Next, add the exact URL of the web page you intend to apply changes to in the ‘Enter the page URL you want to edit’ field.

    Step 2. Create the variation

To apply the changes you want, you must go to the ‘Variations’ tab and add a new Variation ( ‘+ NEW VARIATION’ ).
Here you will find the WYSIWYG editor which will help you make changes to the original version (‘CONTROL‘) into the new Variation.
Make the changes in the editor as in the example below:

In the new window select ’Color&background’ and choose a shade of red, then press ‘Save’.

This is how the menu will look:

Step 3. Set the audience and the segmentation

The next step is to choose your ‘Audience’. If you want the experiment to be applied on multiple pages (in this particular example, on all the website pages), you can use the ‘URL starts with’ condition.

Create or select a segment from the list:

Then, this window will appear, in which you must choose an existing segment or create a new one:

After that, under the Advanced segmentation option, you can set up the device type segmentation and the exclusivity option.

Step 4. Set the traffic allocation and goals

In the Traffic allocation & goals tab, move the blue slider to choose the percentage of visitors that will be exposed to this test. Then split the traffic between Control and Variation(s).

In the next section, set up the goals that you want to track. Besides from the three goals implemented by default, in this section you can create your own custom goals that will be saved and will remain available for future experiments.

When you click on the red button, this window will show up:

Step 5. Schedule and publish the experiment

Finally, make the setting to schedule and set your experiment live, as you can see below:

DON’T FORGET: After each time you publish or update an experiment, you have to wait 3-4 minutes until it will be visible on your website. If you want to see the changes live instantly, install the OmniTool extension that helps bypass the cache system which generates the delay. You can download OmniTool here.
