The term below the fold is used in web design to refer to that area of a web page that becomes visible only after scrolling. Below the fold is the opposite of above the fold, which defines the area that is visible right after landing on a web page. Web designers usually place the most important elements of a web page above the fold, and design “for the fold” when creating the graphics and the UX elements. It is generally accepted that content placed above the fold is more valuable and receives more attention, while content placed below the fold is less valuable.
